The 9th of May marks a historical moment in the European calendar- 70 years ago, in the aftermath of a war which devastated Europe, Robert Schuman issued his now famous declaration calling for a new form of political cooperation in Europe based on a coal and steel community. During Europe toughest times, his proposals laid the groundwork for a lasting peace and prosperity which still endure on the continent to this day. “Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity.”
