RESIDENCY
Restart – A Safe Space For Music Minds is the first Italian mental health support office for both musicians and music industry workers.
Born in 2019, the office involves more than 30 accredited psychologists and psychotherapists all over the country to help professionals who fight mental distress and the problems connected to it and offer an inclusive, different and shared mental health narrative through workshops and group activities.
During the pandemic, the association opened a free extraordinary emergency help desk to support the professionals and musicians involved, providing valuable help in one of the moments of greatest crisis in the music sector.
Restart responds to the most intimate and specific needs of the individual professional involved in the music industry.
Breaking the stigma related to mental health is certainly one of our main goals, doing it within a sector so creative and liquid for us, that are also part of it, is a reason for living.
I believe the idea of Restart is innovative because, although the discussion related to mental health has opened up widely in recent years, within such a creative and performing sector it is still difficult to accept the frailties of the individual. With our idea we want to “normalize” what for many is an unrestrained daily struggle, bringing a new, truer, more authentic and proactive narrative of this struggle into the music industry.
