Ladies on Records is a music project devoted to exploration and preservation of music created by women in 60s, 70s and 80s. The project is created as a multidisciplinary enterprise covering the topic of female creativity in music from a social, cultural and economic point of view. Ladies on Records is a music label as well as a platform of exposing female music from around the world. The project was launched in 2015 and since than resulted in various cultural and music products – music compilations released on vinyl, CD and digital; audio mixtapes, DJ sessions, interviews and stories published in international magazines. Kornelia Binicewicz is a Polish record collector, curator of music compilations, an owner of Ladies on Records label. Her passion brought her to Turkey where she started to explore the undiscovered world of Turkish female music scene. Throughout 3 years of digging in records and meeting forgotten or unrecognized female singers, she also managed to dive in the back catalogues of old labels. She curated “Turkish Ladies. Female Singers from Turkey 1973 – 1988” and “Uzelli Psychedelic Anadolu” compilations, both released on vinyl. Exploration of female music from all around the world takes the project towards new enterprises devoted to Greek, Polish and Israeli music created by women. Ladies on Records builds awareness about women’s activity in music through discovering music in the archives of old labels from around the world, releasing the music again with a special spotlight on cultural and social aspect of being a female artist in a music world and through DJ sets, radio sessions, texts and interviews. In 2020 Ladies on Records’ project will be developed as a re-issue label – next projects will be devoted to exploration and publishing of Polish female music (in a cooperation with National Polish Radio), Israeli and Greek female music from 60s, 70s and 80s. All the projects shall be finalized with compilations, re-issues, DJ sessions and lectures.
